Symposium to address water resources related challenges

Salalah: A two-day symposium titled “Water Resources Sustainability: Water and Climate Change” began in the Wilayat of Salalah on Sunday.

The symposium is organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in partnership with Dhofar Municipality and Nama Dhofar Services company, in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Oman Water Society and Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar.

The symposium seeks to address the challenges related to water resources sustainability amid ongoing climate change, in addition to enhancing cooperation and the exchanging expertise in the fields of water management and adaptation to the impacts of climate change.

The main paper of the symposium focuses on the contributions of the “Arab Network for the Management of Water Resources in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions (Arab G-WADI)” to sustainable water resources management and adaptation planning.

The symposium elaborates on four main themes: Sustainability of water resources in view of climate change; Water resources management and plans to address climate risks; Modern technologies to ensure water sustainability; and Policies and partnerships in supporting water sustainability. -ONA
