Scientific Symposium of GCC History and Archaeology Association commences in Dhofar

Salalah: The 25th Scientific Symposium of GCC History and Archaeology Association opened today in Dhofar Governorate.

Hosted by the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the three-day event has drawn over 180 members, professionals, and enthusiasts from within Oman and abroad.

The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Sheikh Salim Mustahail A -Ma'shani, Advisor at the Diwan of Royal Court, in the presence of numerous dignitaries, researchers, and academics.

Participants will present 30 research papers addressing the Gulf's history, heritage, and culture across diverse chronological periods, drawing upon the findings of field surveys and archaeological studies, while also highlighting the civilizational, intellectual, economic, and social dimensions of the region.

Eng. Ibrahim Said Al Kharusi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Heritage Affairs and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, affirmed that Oman's hosting of this session reflects the Ministry's commitment to supporting research and enhancing awareness of the civilizational heritage, while also providing specialists with a forum to exchange expertise and discuss the outcomes of recent discoveries.

The current session coincides with the silver jubilee of the Association's symposia, culminating a distinguished journey of comprehensive scholarly dialogue and the strengthening of bonds among the peoples of the Gulf.

Running alongside the symposium is an exhibition featuring a collection of artefacts and archaeological finds discovered in the Sultanate of Oman, scientific publications in the fields of history and heritage, a chronological timeline of the Sultanate of Oman, and a tourism information centre.

The symposium programme also includes visits to several of Dhofar Governorate's most prominent archaeological, historical, and tourist sites, enabling participants to explore its historical, cultural, natural, and touristic assets, coinciding with the Khareef (monsoon) season in Dhofar.
