Oman condemns Israeli settlement expansion in West Bank

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has condemned Israel’s settlement activities on Palestinian territories in the occupied West Bank, describing the measures as a clear violation of international law.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, Oman said the unilateral and illegal measures constitute a blatant violation of international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Oman stressed that such actions undermine the international community’s efforts to reach a two-state solution and establish an independent Palestinian state living side by side with Israel in peace and security.

The Foreign Ministry warned that Israeli settlement expansion threatens prospects for peace and contributes to instability in the region. It said the developments run counter to the objective of the international community to achieve a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.

Oman called on the international community to unify its position against the measures and take practical steps to ensure accountability in accordance with international law. It also stressed the need for Israel to comply with its legal responsibilities and immediately halt all settlement activities.

The Sultanate reaffirmed that a just and lasting peace can only be achieved through respect for international law, ensuring the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination and establishing their independent state.
