Muscat: The Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) implemented a human rights awareness and education program in Dhofar Governorate, coinciding with the Khareef Dhofar Festival 2026. More than 340 people from various segments of society benefited from the program, which is part of the Commission's efforts to promote a culture of human rights throughout the Sultanate of Oman.
The program, implemented in cooperation and coordination with several institutions, included the distribution of more than 2,500 awareness and research publications, along with 104 awareness posters, to various organizations and institutions.
The distributed publications included research studies on human rights topics for researchers, booklets to educate children about abuse, bullying, and other related issues, as well as the Commission's annual reports and informational materials on international conventions. The wall displays focused on introducing the conventions to which the Sultanate of Oman has acceded and reviewing national protection mechanisms for women, children, and persons with disabilities.
The program included a series of training workshops and interactive events, coinciding with the Ministry of Education's summer program for school students, "My Summer... Learning and Innovation." These included workshops on the role of the Oman Human Rights Commission in protecting and promoting children's rights, implemented in cooperation with several schools, as well as activities for children such as "Color and Learn Your Rights," and others on self-protection mechanisms in cooperation with the Bahja Omani Association for Orphans.
The program also included specialized workshops for Girl Guides at the Ashour Scout Camp and others for members of the Omani Special Olympics at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment. Additionally, a seminar was held to promote humanitarian and human rights work in cooperation with the Social Development Committee in the Wilayat of Taqah.
The program was implemented in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Social Development Committee in the Wilayat of Taqah, several civil society organizations, and the Omani Special Olympics.
These programs come within the framework of the Oman Human Rights Commission’s mandate to spread the culture of human rights among the various segments of society, in accordance with its system issued by Royal Decree No. 47/2026, in order to enhance awareness of rights and consolidate their principles among members of society and its institutions.
