Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in partnership with WingTech, has launched the DroneX summer drone technology program under the patronage of H.E. Eng. Naif bin Ali Al Abri, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority.
The program reflects the Authority's ongoing efforts to develop students' skills in emerging technologies, promote awareness of the safe and responsible use of drones, and prepare a new generation equipped to keep pace with rapid advancements in the aviation and advanced technology sectors.
Targeting students from Grades 9 to 11, the program offers a comprehensive training experience that combines theoretical instruction with hands-on practical learning. It aims to enhance participants' technical capabilities, identify and nurture their talents during the summer break, and introduce them to future academic and career opportunities in the civil aviation sector.
The program features three specialized training tracks: operational drone flying, technical maintenance, and the design, assembly, and operation of First Person View (FPV) drones, enabling participants to acquire advanced practical skills in line with international best practices.
The DroneX program is being implemented as part of the strategic partnership between the Civil Aviation Authority and WingTech, underscoring both parties' commitment to developing young Omani talent, fostering a culture of innovation, and encouraging the adoption of advanced technologies in the aviation sector. The initiative also supports Oman Vision 2040's goals of building a knowledge- and innovation-based economy.
The program will be delivered in two training cohorts at the Civil Aviation Authority's headquarters during evening sessions. The first cohort will run from July 12 to July 23, while the second will be held from August 2 to August 13, 2026.
The launch ceremony featured an introductory presentation on the program and its training tracks, as well as a live drone demonstration. The program will conclude with a closing ceremony on Monday, August 17, 2026, during which participants and sponsoring and supporting organizations will be honored.
