MUSCAT: Omani motorsport professional Sanad Al Rawahi has been selected as the first recipient of a prestigious scholarship launched by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), earning a place in the Master’s in International Sports Management programme at the European Sport Business School (ESBS) in Spain.
The scholarship, awarded through the FIA University Scholarship Programme, aims to create new pathways into motorsport management by supporting talented professionals from emerging motorsport nations.
Sanad, who serves as Motorsport Manager at the Oman Automobile Association (OAA), brings more than 10 years of experience in the sector, having overseen race facilities, coached drivers and organised national and international motorsport events.
His journey in the sport began as a marshal and racing coach before progressing to a leadership role focused on developing motorsport in Oman.
He is also a graduate of the FIA Immersion Programme (2024) and the FIA Advanced Leadership Programme (2025).
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the scholarship reflects the organisation’s commitment to developing future leaders in motorsport.
“This new scholarship opens doors to management careers in motorsport, ensuring that future leaders are defined by their potential and ambition,” he said.
“As part of our FIA University Scholarship Programme, this addition reflects our commitment to supporting the next generation by expanding opportunities around the world.”
Sanad described the award as a significant milestone in his career and said he hopes to use the experience to support the growth of motorsport in Oman.
“Winning the FIA Scholarship is a real honour and a milestone in my motorsport journey.
“It gives me the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the industry, and I hope to bring that knowledge back to Oman to help develop local talent and contribute to the growth of motorsport across the region,” he said.
The Master’s in International Sports Management programme is recognised as one of Europe’s leading sports management degrees and has consistently ranked among Spain’s top programmes in the field.
The FIA scholarship covers full tuition fees and provides support towards travel and living expenses in Spain.
