Kyiv: A Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian-occupied Crimean Peninsula has left at least four people dead and 28 others injured, the territory's Russia-backed authorities said on Sunday.
Videos circulating on social media showed a major fuel depot on fire in Crimea.
Sergey Aksyonov, the Moscow-appointed governor in Crimea, announced that fuel sales at Crimean gas stations would be halted on Sunday, with fuel only to be sold to state-run companies.
Crimea is internationally-recognised Ukrainian territory which was annexed by Russia in 2014 in a move met with sanctions by the US and the EU. Crimea hold a strategic position on the Black Sea and is also a logistical asset for Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022.
A separate Ukrainian drone attack was also reported in the southern Russian region of Krasnodar, with local authorities saying one person was killed.
Ferry traffic between Crimea and the Krasnodar region has been temporarily stopped after the attacks with the bridge connecting the two regions also being shut down.
Russia's Defense Ministry said hundreds of Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later confirmed the attacks on Crimea and Krasnodar.
"Facilities on both sides of the Crimean Bridge were hit: maritime logistics used to transport oil in the Krasnodar region and an oil depot in temporarily occupied Kerch," Zelenskyy said.
"In addition, military logistics facilities were successfully struck, along with four radar stations belonging to S-400 systems and two Pantsir systems."
Ukraine escalates attacks on Russian infrastructure
Ukraine has ramped up its drone attacks on Russia's energy infrastructure in recent days.
Ukraine launched a drone assault on Moscow on June 18, hitting an oil refinery in what is believed to be the largest Ukrainian attack on Russian territory since the start of Russia's invasion.
It came after Russia hit a historic monastery complex in Kyiv earlier in the month.
Zelenskyy on Saturday also confirmed a long-range Ukrainian drone attack on an oil refinery in Russia's Tyumen region.
