Muscat: The Oman Cricket Veterans League 2026 concluded on a dramatic at the Oman Cricket Academy Grounds following two weeks of spirited competition that celebrated the enduring passion for the game among veteran cricketers across the Sultanate.
The tournament featured six teams — Dromedary CC, Sur Strikers, Seeb Stars, Salalah Challengers, Muscat Capitals, and newly inducted side Sohar Titans. The league brought together 99 players aged 45 and above, all of whom are no longer active in the domestic circuit, rekindling old rivalries and friendships through the spirit of cricket.
This year’s edition once again showcased that cricket transcends generations, providing a platform for former players to reconnect with the sport while inspiring the wider cricketing community with their continued enthusiasm and commitment.
In a fitting repeat of last year’s final, Seeb Stars and Muscat Capitals locked horns in a thrilling championship clash that ultimately required a super over to separate the two sides. Seeb Stars successfully defended their title to emerge champions for the second consecutive year.
Batting first, Seeb Stars posted a competitive 146/6 in their 20 overs. Muscat Capitals found themselves in deep trouble early in the chase after losing five wickets within the first 10 overs. However, Hemal Mehta produced a remarkable counter-attacking innings, smashing 72 runs off just 39 deliveries, including five towering sixes. In a sensational finish, three of those maximums came in the final over to level the scores and force the match into a super over.
Muscat Capitals managed 11 runs in the super over, once again aided by a crucial six from Hemal Mehta. However, Seeb Stars responded confidently as Prashanth Chandran struck a six off the very first ball of the super over bowled by Mehta, setting the tone that sealed the title.
The Oman Cricket Veterans League 2026 stood as a celebration of both compassion and competition — highlighting not only the competitive edge that still burns within these players, but also the camaraderie, respect, and lifelong friendships that cricket continues to foster.
