Ibra: Nama Water Services is continuing the implementation of a package of projects aimed at consolidating the water supply system and expanding service coverage to enhance operational efficiency and supply stability across various regions in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. These efforts are expected to positively impact beneficiaries by providing a more stable and reliable service.
These initiatives are part of a sustainable development vision that aligns with the urban and population growth witnessed in North Al Sharqiyah, requiring continuous infrastructure development to support Oman's sustainability and water security goals.
Mohammed Harib Al Makhmari, Director General of Sector Project Execution in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, stated to Oman News Agency (ONA) that these projects follow an approach based on efficiency and sustainability. He noted that the objective is to maximise the efficiency of water resource utilisation and increase network readiness to respond to growing demand, achieving integration in water services at the governorate level and preparing infrastructure for future urban expansion.
He added that work on the second phase of the water network project in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi is ongoing, reflecting Nama Water Services' commitment to enhancing the supply system and reaching villages not covered in the first phase. This vital project, with an investment cost exceeding OMR15 million, covers several villages including Khadra Bani Difa, Al Khashba, Al Sudaira, Al Mintirib, Al Mutaili', Al Washhi, Al Wafi, Al Khurais, Al Tasawir and Al Majaza.
The project involves significant technical efforts to navigate diverse terrain, encompassing the installation of 40 kilometres of transmission lines and 217 kilometres of distribution networks, alongside the construction of a pumping station and an elevated tank. This integrated system aims to improve distribution efficiency and supply stability for more than 4,000 homes, reducing reliance on temporary solutions and enhancing the quality of life in target villages. Al Makhmari noted that the completion rate has reached 26 percent, with the project expected to be finalised during the second quarter of 2027.
Furthermore, Al Makhmari highlighted the commencement of one of the governorate's largest projects in the Wilayat of Dima W’attayyin, with a cost exceeding OMR28 million. This project establishes an integrated water transmission and distribution system extending from Al Jarda to Mahlah, reaching Al Rahba in the Wilayat of Bidbid. The scope includes network extension and the creation of an integrated operating system with main and booster pumping stations, tanks with capacities up to 4,000 cubic metres, and tanker filling stations. It features approximately 77.8 kilometres of main transmission lines and 291 kilometres of distribution networks, providing over 6,200 connections for existing and future homes.
In the Wilayat of Ibra, Nama Water Services recently announced the readiness of the water network project in the Al Qa' area. Following a 12-month execution period at a cost of approximately OMR290,000, the project is now receiving connection applications and is expected to serve more than 4,000 beneficiaries.
Al Makhmari explained that these projects integrate with the recently inaugurated OMR129 million strategic system designed to enhance water transmission between South and North Al Sharqiyah. That major project spans 312 kilometres of transmission lines, supported by four new pumping stations, three upgraded existing stations, and 17 water tanks with a total capacity of 265,000 cubic metres, utilising advanced monitoring and control systems.
He emphasised that Nama Water Services is moving toward building an integrated system that combines operational efficiency with maximised impact, reflecting its commitment to developing the water sector according to international best practices to achieve true sustainability for the community, economy, and environment.
