
Muscat : The Ministry of Health(MOH), officially inaugurated Mahout Hospital in Al Wusta Governorate today , reflecting Oman’s accelerated pace of comprehensive health development and a tangible embodiment of the government’s decentralized service approach.
The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Harib bin Thuwaini Al Said, Advisor at the Diwan of Royal Court, and attended by H.E. Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, along with a number of dignitaries, members of the governorate’s municipal council, sheikhs, directors of government institutions, and invited guests.
The event included a speech delivered by H.E. Suleiman bin Nasser Al Haji, MOH’s Undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs, who noted that Mahout Hospital project ranks among the most important initiatives under the national health strategy aimed at expanding specialized services and upgrading referral hospitals.
H.E. Al Haji further explained that the hospital represents a significant addition to the healthcare infrastructure projects already inaugurated in recent times, as well as those scheduled to open in the coming phase including hospitals of Samail, Al Falah, Al Nama, and Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah, within the framework of the universal health coverage program.
Engineer Yousuf bin Yaqoub Ambu Ali, MOH’s Director General of Projects and Engineering Services, gave an overview of the project, reaffirming that it aligns with the Ministry’s strategic plans to enhance the efficiency of health services and ensure their balanced distribution.
He stressed that Mahout Hospital serves as a cornerstone for raising the standard of healthcare in Al Wusta Governorate, particularly across its vast geographical expanse, thereby improving emergency response times and delivering integrated medical services to the community.
Ambu Ali added that the hospital’s location was carefully chosen to serve the population clusters of Mahout and surrounding areas, with easy access via the existing road network to ensure smooth patient flow and rapid access to care.
He noted that the building’s design achieves the highest levels of operational efficiency, featuring integrated and flexible interior space allocation that facilitates movement between departments while separating pathways for patients, visitors, and medical staff; reducing congestion and enhancing internal flow.
During the ceremony, His Highness Sayyid Harib bin Thuwaini Al Said unveiled the commemorative plaque, officially declaring Mahout Hospital open.
Al Said and the attendees toured several departments and wards, where hospital staff provided detailed explanations of the services offered. The event also featured a visual presentation on the project.
The new Mahout Hospital is considered one of the country’s prominent health development projects, built according to the latest international standards. Its construction cost stood at OMR 13.92 million, with a total project cost of OMR 17 million.
The hospital sits on a total land area of 200,000 square meters, with a built-up area of 17,400 square meters. It provides primary and secondary healthcare services to the people of Wilayat Mahout and neighboring wilayats, serving an estimated beneficiary population of 20,000 people.
Mahout Hospital is equipped with (54) inpatient beds and features a comprehensive range of modern departments and facilities, including, outpatient clinics, accident and emergency unit, advanced operating theater, Labor room, fully equipped medical laboratories, radiology department, pharmacy, Internal patient wards, Neonatal care unit, in addition to support services building, electrical, mechanical, and air-conditioning systems, computer networks, as well as meeting hall, and public facilities.
