"Arfaj" plant spread in Al Buraimi

Muscat : The Environment Authority in Al Buraimi Governorate has observed the spread of the "Arfaj" plant in several locations within the Wilayat of Al Buraimi, as part of its efforts to document plant diversity and enhance the protection of native wild plants.

The "Arfaj" plant is a well-known desert plant in Al Buraimi Governorate, particularly in the Wilayats of Al Buraimi and Mahdah. It is characterized by its dense, silvery-gray branches and small, scattered leaves, which help it adapt to the arid climate. It is also known for its seasonal flowering, producing small yellow flowers that add a distinctive aesthetic to the desert landscape.

The "Arfaj" plant thrives in sandy and open plains and possesses a high tolerance for high temperatures and water scarcity. This makes it an important plant for soil stabilization and sand encroachment prevention, in addition to providing habitat for some living organisms and serving as a source of grazing in some cases.

Fatima bint Saif Al Jabri, Head of the Environmental Compliance Department, stated: “Monitoring the spread of the "Arfaj" plant in several locations is a positive indicator of the stability of the local ecosystem. It reflects the efforts being made to protect natural resources and preserve native wild plants.

Al Jabri emphasized the importance of concerted community efforts to protect these plants and prevent any harm to them, given their crucial role in maintaining ecological balance.”

She added that the results of this monitoring reflect the health of the local ecosystem and the continued existence of native plant species.

Al Jabri stressed the importance of continuing awareness and field efforts to preserve this natural resource, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability and enhancing the natural balance in the governorate.
