India's DGCA modifies ticket refund rules

New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of India has issued new rules on February 24, 2026, effective March 26, letting passengers cancel or modify tickets within 48 hours of booking without extra charges, as long as domestic flights are at least seven days out or international ones 15 days.

Refunds must process in seven days for credit cards and 14 working days for agent bookings, with all taxes and fees returned even on non-refundable fares—no processing fees allowed.

Airlines now have to show clear refund breakdowns at booking, and medical emergencies qualify for refunds with proof, bringing relief amid rising complaints about delays and opacity.
