Muscat: The Main Committee for Moon Sighting said that based on confirmed astronomical evidence indicating that the moon will set on Tuesday, the 29th of Sha'ban 1447 AH, corresponding to 17 February 2026, before or at sunset in all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, the sighting of the crescent moon on this day is astronomically impossible.
The Committee added that in accordance with the established principle of not accepting reports that contradict observable reality and scientific certainty when astronomical facts confirm the impossibility of sighting, it announced the following:
Wednesday; 18 February 2026, will complete the month of Sha'ban 1447 AH, and Thursday; 19 February 2026 will be the first day of the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH

May Allah likewise bestow upon the beloved Sultanate of Oman and its loyal citizens ever greater elevation, dignity, and honour, and upon all Muslims across the lands of the East and West, prosperity and sacred blessing, imploring Allah the Almighty to accept from us all our fasting, our vigils in prayer, and our righteous deeds.
