
Muscat: The Ministry of Education on Tuesday received an educational delegation from the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) under the Chinese Ministry of Education.
The delegation is headed by Hu Zhiping, Deputy Director of the Center for Language Exchange and Cooperation.
This visit is aimed at discussing and enhancing ways of cooperation between the two sides in the field of teaching the Chinese language in public schools in the Sultanate of Oman.
As part of the visit programme, Dr. Abdullah Khamis Ambusaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, met with the Chinese delegation to discuss opportunities for development and exchange of expertise in Chinese language education.
He affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to introducing languages of scientific and economic importance into its curriculum in a number of schools in Muscat and Al Dakhiliyah Governorates.
He praised the quality of cooperation with Chinese educational institutions, including the exchange visits for teachers, students, and officials, which support the Chinese language education programmes.
The visit included reviewing the implementation of Chinese language education as an elective subject in four public schools in Muscat and Al Dakhiliyah Governorates.
It also involved field visits to the targeted schools to learn about the school buildings, the education system, and the mechanisms for teaching Chinese in the Omani environment.
Regarding the teaching of the Chinese language, Salim bin Mohammed Al Kharousi, Director of the Department of Humanities Curriculum Development, said: “The Ministry of Education began implementing the teaching of Chinese as an elective subject for 11th and 12th grade students, starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, in a number of schools in Muscat and Al Dakhiliyah Governorates. This aims to provide students with the opportunity to learn one of the world’s most widespread languages and the broad horizons it offers in the job market and for scholarships.” -
