Shura Council committee reviews CEPA with India

Muscat: The Economic and Financial Committee of the Shura Council discussed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of India on Sunday.

The meeting was chaired by Khalid Al Maawali, Chairman of the Council, in the presence of Qais Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, along with specialists from the Ministry.

The meeting featured extensive deliberations on the prospects of the agreement and its key economic and investment components.

The Minister delivered a detailed briefing outlining the Ministry’s perspective on the proposed agreement and highlighted the opportunities it offers for enhancing bilateral trade, increasing the competitiveness of the national economy, supporting the development of productive sectors, and enabling investments across various fields.

Committee members also listened to the Minister’s responses to a number of their inquiries regarding the provisions of the agreement and its anticipated economic impact on the Sultanate of Oman, reflecting the Council’s keenness to thoroughly study the technical and legislative aspects associated with the agreement.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Economic and Financial Committee adopted its report on the agreement, incorporating the key observations and recommendations derived from its detailed discussions of the economic, technical, and legislative dimensions of the CEPA.

This meeting was held as part of the Committee’s fourth regular meeting within the Third Annual Sitting (2025–2026) of the Tenth Term (2023–2027) of the Shura Council.
