Oman participates in environmental meeting in Nairobi

Nairobi: The meeting of the Open-ended Committee of Permanent Representatives (OECPR) to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), discussed on Monday the preparations for initiating negotiations on the resolutions scheduled to be presented to the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) at its seventh session.

Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, will chair the UNEA session.

The participation of the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Environment Authority, comes within the framework of its continuous preparations for chairing the seventh session of the Assembly, and its role in supporting international consensus on environmental issues and promoting pathways for sustainability at the global level.

The meeting, held in the Kenyan capital Nairobi and continuing until 5 December, is part of a series of preparatory meetings for the convening of the Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7).

The meeting is examining negotiation mechanisms on 16 draft technical resolutions that include enhancing climate action, combating pollution, protecting biodiversity, and supporting sustainable production and consumption policies, along with proposals related to the optimal management of mining and minerals and chemical management.
