Bahla hosts equestrian festival to celebrate National Day

Muscat: The Seih Al-Shamkhat Equestrian Field in the Wilayat of Bahla witnessed a vibrant equestrian festival held in celebration of Oman’s 55th National Day. Organized by the Bahla Equestrian Association, the event showcased the deep-rooted cultural heritage and national pride associated with the sport of horseback riding in the Sultanate.

The festival drew an impressive turnout of 170 riders who competed in seven main races, each named after historic and symbolic landmarks of Bahla. This thematic approach highlighted the strong connection between equestrianism and the rich cultural legacy of the region.

A highlight of the event was the Elite Race, dedicated to purebred Arabian horses, covering a distance of 800 meters. The winner was awarded a traditional Arabian sword, a prestigious prize that drew fierce competition among the top riders of the governorate.

In addition to the races, the festival featured a variety of traditional and cultural performances, including horse and camel shows, tent pegging and archery demonstrations, paragliding displays, and folk art performances. A traditional crafts exhibition also offered visitors a glimpse into Oman’s artisanal heritage, with local craftsmen showcasing their handmade products.

The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Hilal bin Said Al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah.

Abdullah bin Said Al-Ma’ani, Chairman of the Bahla Equestrian Association, emphasized the festival’s role in nurturing young talent and promoting cultural and sporting initiatives rooted in Oman’s authentic heritage. “Equestrianism is an integral part of our national identity and historical legacy,” he stated.

He also noted the overwhelming public attendance as a testament to the festival’s success and its positive social impact. Al-Ma’ani reaffirmed the association’s commitment to evolving the event into a comprehensive platform that blends sport, heritage, arts, and traditional crafts, reinforcing Oman’s cultural stature.

The festivities concluded with a ceremony honoring the winners, participants, and supporters, in an atmosphere filled with national pride and a deep appreciation for the timeless values embodied by equestrian traditions in Bahla.
