Oman is an influential country in the region: Senior Iranian official

Muscat; Majid Takht Ravanchi, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman is an influential country in the region and enjoys the attention of the countries of the Islamic world.

During a press conference held on Thursday at the Iranian Embassy in Muscat, His Excellency stated that the Sultanate of Oman is a neighbouring and friendly country to the Islamic Republic of Iran, and that strategic consultation meetings between the two countries are held annually in the Sultanate of Oman and sometimes in Iran, to discuss the latest developments in regional and global issues.

His Excellency added that there are many converging viewpoints between the two countries on many regional and international issues, and that the level of bilateral relations and positions between the two countries is acceptable as they seek to bring their viewpoints closer on many issues.

He noted that the level of economic, political, social and cultural relations between the two countries is "excellent," and that popular relations between the two countries are strong, in addition to the growth of trade between the two sides.

He stated that the recent visit of His Excellency President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to the Sultanate of Oman, during which several bilateral agreements were signed between the two sides, demonstrates the interest of both countries in developing their relations.

He emphasized that there is a determination and will from the leadership of both countries to develop relations, and that one of the most important decisions between the two countries is the formation of a joint committee, through which the two countries can oversee the level of relations between them and build upon the decisions issued by it.

Regarding the Iranian-American nuclear file, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs expressed his gratitude to the government of the Sultanate of Oman for hosting the nuclear negotiations and rounds of dialogue in Muscat, indicating that there were five rounds of negotiations, three of which were held in the Sultanate of Oman and two in the Italian capital, Rome, and all of them were under the supervision of the Sultanate of Oman, describing it as an honest and influential mediator.
