Muscat: A 3-day Gameathon Hackathon kicked off on Sunday with the participation of 105 talents, divided into 21 teams representing various academic and research establishments in the Sultanate of Oman.
The participants will develop innovative solutions that address national challenges in the fields of education, research, sustainability and entrepreneurship.
The Gemathon Hackathon is an interactive national platform that brings together students, innovators, researchers and entrepreneurs from different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. It furnishes a motivating, competitive environment aimed at contributing to the acceleration of digital transition programmes and the promotion of sustainable development in the Sultanate of Oman.
Participants focus on developing technology projects featuring smart education and learning technologies, research, digital analysis, educational sustainability and inclusiveness, as well as entrepreneurship and institutional innovation.
These challenges were identified in terms of actual needs identified by relevant government departments, giving participants the opportunity to present applicable solutions.
The first day of the hackathon included a session that reviewed details of the event, followed by workshops on developing innovative models. This is in addition to tours of an exhibition showcasing national innovations and emerging technologies.
The second and third days of the event include training sessions and specialized reviews supervised by experts in the fields of technology and entrepreneurship. The projects will then be presented before a jury. The winners will be announced at the closing ceremony.
The outcomes of the Gameathon Hackathon are expected to contribute to the promotion of digital transition and enhance cooperation among higher education institutions and the public and private sectors, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Research and Innovation.
It is worth noting that the Gameathon Hackathon coincides with the research and technology summit (OTS25), scheduled to begin tomorrow Monday 20 October 2025.
