CAA issues weather alert for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across Oman

Muscat: Extreme weather conditions are expected to affect several governorates in the Sultanate of Oman, said the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Cente.

Rainfall will vary in intensity, ranging from 25 to 60 mm in Al Wusta and Al Sharqiyah, and 20 to 40 mm in Al Dakhiliyah and Al Dhahirah. These conditions could lead to flash floods in wadis.

Scattered thunderstorms and rain (10 to 25 mm) are also possible in Dhofar and the Al Hajar mountain regions, which could cause streams and wadis to overflow.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a public advisory to avoid crossing wadis, stay away from low-lying areas, and refrain from sailing during this period. The alert also warns of strong downdraft winds with speeds between 15 to 45 knots (28 to 83 km/h), and rough sea conditions with wave heights along the Arabian Sea coast reaching 3-4 meters.
