Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) yesterday opened its doors for the 31st batch consisting of around 3,000 undergraduate students.
Dr. Ali bin Saud Al Bimani, the Vice Chancellor of SQU, congratulated the new batch while addressing the students and their parents at the university’s amphitheatre.
“SQU is keen to enhance quality of its academic programmes to make them meet the job market requirements of the time. The immediate priority of the newly admitted students is to complete the Foundation Programme (FP) offered by the university or to
meet its requirements.
“The Foundation Programme is aimed at improving the English language proficiency, reinforcing the knowledge of mathematical and analytical techniques, consolidating the basic applications of computer sciences, and integrating necessary study skills,” he said.
The induction week for the new students which started yesterday will run until August 30.

The induction aims to introduce the new students to the different units and centres at SQU that offer a plethora of services and facilities in academic, religious, cultural fields as well as services to promote sports activities and various social and health care
programmes.
The Vice Chancellor wished the students a pleasant and productive academic life during their studies and called them to follow the rules and regulations of the institution.
