Muscat: The Environment Authority and Japan Ministry of Environment on Tuesday signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) on environmental matters.
The MoC seeks to enhance cooperation towards the realization of sustainable development and the implementation of environmental multilateral agreements, like the Paris Agreement. The MoC also aims to establish a framework for cooperation between the two sides based on equality, reciprocity and mutual benefits.
The MoC was signed by Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, and Matsuzawa Yutaka, Vice-Minister for Global Environmental Affairs in Japan. The signing ceremony was attended by Kiyoshi Serizawa, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman.
The MoC provides for cooperation between the two countries in the mitigation of the effects of climate change, adaptation to related impacts, the management of waste and the conservation of biodiversity as nature-based solutions.
The two sides will conduct training courses, expert visits, research, interactive discussions and the exchange of information in areas of cooperation and joint projects.
