Muscat: The committee tasked with regulating the uses of biotechnology and protecting genetic data in the Sultanate of Oman held its first meeting of the year (2025) today.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Saif Abdullah Al Hadabi, Research and Innovation Undersecretary at the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
The meeting discussed the preparation of guidelines to draft policies for regulating the uses of biotechnology and devising a national strategy for biotechnology in the Sultanate of Oman.
The meeting looked into preparations to organize a session of discussion on the National Biotechnology Strategy. The session is scheduled to be held in conjunction with Muscat Global Knowledge Dialogue summit from 26 to 30 January.
The meeting touched on steps to organize the second workshop to finalize the items needed for devising the National Biotechnology Strategy. It also discussed the national working teams’ participation in drafting the strategy. The working teams were formed from relevant governmental and private establishments.
