Riyadh: Represented by the Foreign Ministry, the Sultanate of Oman today took part in an expanded Arab meeting on Syria. Held in Riyadh, the meeting discussed regional and international efforts to achieve stability in Syria and support political solutions to the Syrian crisis.
“The meeting represents an important step towards supporting Syria to restore its natural status in its Arab, regional and international surroundings,” said Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, who headed the Sultanate of Oman’s delegation at the meeting.
Sayyid Badr laid emphasis on the importance of joint action to support the Syrian people's aspiration to shape their country's future and achieve security, unity, development and reconstruction. He also underlined the need to lift international economic sanctions on Syria.
Sayyid Badr stressed the importance of keeping up the call on the United Nations and the Security Council to shoulder their responsibilities and take firm measures to ensure Israel's withdrawal from Mount Hermon, Quneitra Governorate and all Syrian territories, in addition to ensuring full commitment to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
Sayyid Badr pointed out that the meeting reflected a positive spirit of collective cooperation and shared responsibility in supporting Syria and in consolidating peace and stability in the region.
The meeting was attended by the Foreign Ministers of the GCC states, the Republic of Iraq, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Lebanese Republic, the Syrian Republic and the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Sayyid Badr also headed the Sultanate of Oman's delegation at expanded an international ministerial meeting on Syria. Held in Riyadh, the meeting was aimed at enhancing regional and international coordination on supporting political transition in Syria, achieving security and stability, promoting the process of reconstruction and economic recovery in Syria and safeguarding the unity and sovereignty of the Syrian territory.
The meeting was attended by the foreign ministers of GCC states and their counterparts from Arab and friendly countries, in addition to the United Nations' envoy to Syria and the representative of the European Union.
