Muscat: Within the context of the Sultanate of Oman’s celebration of His Majesty the Sultan’s Accession Day, the Ministry of Information yesterday organised a media gathering titled (Oman & the World) with the participation of many media persons and journalists from various world countries.
The meeting aimed to highlight the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman in maintaining international peace and security and promoting the message of peace in different issues. It also aimed to spotlight the development witnessed by Oman in the heritage, tourism and real estate sectors, as well as the most important investment opportunities available and the social protection system.
The meeting hosted the following ministers: Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, Salim Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development and Dr. Khalfan Said Al Shu’aili, Minister of Housing and Urban Development. The event was held in the presence of Dr. Abdullah Nassir Al Harrasi, Minister of Information.
The Minister of Information stressed that the Ministry’s hosting media professionals and journalists from other countries reflects a keenness to highlight the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman in promoting the values of security, understanding and peaceful coexistence among different peoples and countries.
In a press statement, the minister said that the Ministry of Information joins hands with the authorities concerned to spotlight and promote economic and commercial potentials in the Sultanate of Oman, as well the attractive investment climate and competitive environment. These, he said, include the well-established infrastructure, the ideal geographical location on the world map, thesupportive legislationand the diverse, unique tourism landmarks that abound in the country.
The minister pointed out that such gatherings would enlighten media professionals and journalists about the accomplishments made in various fields by the Omani Renewed Renaissance, based on “Oman Vision 2040,” in addition to cultural, scientific and civilizational aspects.
The Foreign Minister reviewed the Omani foreign policy and its foundations, which are represented in respecting the sovereignty of states and non-interference in the affairs of others, in addition to boosting relations of cooperation and friendship with various countries of the world and the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to its regional and international role as a state that advocates peace and dialogue.
In his turn, the Minister of Heritage and Tourism affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman pays great attention to the tourism sector as one of the main pillars of Oman Vision 2040. He reviewed a number of tourism indicators and projects that have been achieved during the past five years, in addition to upcoming projects that contribute to achieving sustainable development in the Sultanate of Oman.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Social Development touched on the most important achievements, indicators, plans, programmes and future aspirations of the various sectors concerned with the Ministry, including social care and protection, family and community development, and the role and empowerment of women.
For his part, the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning spoke about the urban strategy in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman within Oman Vision 2040 through integrated residential neighborhood projects for sustainable urban development, most notably Sultan Haitham City, A’Thuraya City, and Al Khuwair Downtown Project.
A number of officials from the Special Economic Zone at Duqm and the Public Authority for Economic Zones and Free Zones reviewed the most prominent achievements and projects in the economic zones, in addition to the available investment opportunities and advanced infrastructure that contribute to attracting local and foreign investments. The efforts made to enhance the competitiveness of the Sultanate of Oman in the economic zones sector were also discussed.
Activities of the gathering will continue tomorrow “Thursday” by hosting the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, the Chairman of Oman Investment Authority, the Chairman of the Environment Authority, the Governor of A’Dakhiliyah and a number of other officials..
