Muscat: Oman Meteorology has issued a weather alert predicting heavy rainfall in various governorates on Thursday, December 26, 2024.
Rainfall of 15-35 mm expected along coastal areas of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and Muscat. 5-15 mm over Musandam, Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Sharqiya, and South Al Sharqiya.
Following are the expected impacts announced by Oman Meteorology:
1. Heavy thundershowers with hail may cause flash floods (Wadis).
2. Strong downdraft active winds with speeds of 15-35 knots (28-64 km/h).
3. Sea state may rise along Musandam governorate and Oman Sea coasts (1.5 - 2.5 meters).
4. Reduction in horizontal visibility during thundershowers.
Following are the precautions advised for the public:
- Avoid crossing Wadis (flash floods)
- Avoid low-lying areas
- Avoid sailing during the alert period
- Take necessary precautions during thundershowers
