BankDhofar organises camel race events celebrating tradition

Muscat: BankDhofar announced that it has organised its first camel races events as part of the bank’s commitment to support heritage activities and preserve Oman’s folklore.

The first event was held in Al Kamel Wal Wafi in Al Shariqiah Governorate, the second race was held at Maydan Al Mushrif in Al Mudhaibi, while the third race was held at Al Bashayer Square in Adam, and the last round of camel races concluded in Barka.

The races were attended by some of the best camel racers in the provinces, celebrating camel owners and those interested in this authentic heritage, honouring a tradition that has been an integral part of the cultural identity of the Sultanate of Oman for centuries. The races were attended by a number of invitees, including sheikhs and officials from different governorates, a number of the Bank’s executive team members, as well as fans of this authentic Omani heritage.

The festival included camel races that reflect the richness of Oman’s cultural heritage. The races consisted of several runs for the participating camels, and the race activities witnessed a great response from the public and camel racing enthusiasts from residents of the neighbouring states and regions.

Camel racing, a sport that embodies the spirit of endurance and teamwork, aligns with BankDhofar’s core values of collaboration, performance driven and building relationships within the community.

The camel race event attracted active participation from across Oman and the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Talib bin Mohamed Al Hajri, AGM - Interior Branches at BankDhofar said, “We at BankDhofar realize the importance of organising and participating in events that are of interest to the community, and since traditional camel racing is very popular in Oman and attracts a large number of people who love this popular sport. It also promotes basic heritage values as well as the spirit of competition between racers, and celebrates Omani history and traditions. Therefore, BankDhofar’s organisation of such events confirm the bank’s interest to revive Oman’s traditional heritage, as these events serve to promote the cultural heritage of the Sultanate of Oman.”
