British ship Excelsior won the Sultan Qaboos Award for Sailing 2024 in appreciation for its pioneering role in establishing international principles of friendship and conducting a programme for exchanging expertise in the field of sail training that benefited young people aged 15 to 26 years.
Excelsior's drive provided a unique model that combines theoretical education and field application, thus offering trainees many opportunities to gain necessary skills and enhance their leadership capabilities.
The ceremony was attended by Omar bin Said Al Kathiri, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in New York, Commodore Ali bin Mohammed Al Hosni, Commander of the Said bin Sultan Naval Base, RNO officers, the Head of Sail Training International (STI) association, and persons and parties interested in the field of sailing.
