US team explores opportunities for cooperation in space sector

Muscat: In continuation of the efforts of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology to achieve the national vision for the space sector, the National Space Programme received a delegation from the United States to explore potential opportunities for cooperation and partnership in the space sector.

The delegation included government and NASA officials and representatives from leading space companies and universities.

The Deputy CEO of NASA gave a presentation in which she spoke about the role played by the agency in the global space sector and pointed out possible areas of cooperation with friendly countries.

During the two-day discussions, the two sides touched on various aspects of space services and applications, satellite technologies, capacity building efforts, ways to exchange knowledge, transfer technology and potential development of joint space projects.

This initiative reflects the Sultanate’s commitment to strengthen its presence in the global space industry, contributing to research and innovation, and benefiting from the expertise of established countries in the field of astronomy; in addition to emphasising the Sultanate’s growing interest in enhancing its space initiatives and benefiting from new technological and scientific opportunities, to enable the space sector to contribute to the digital economy.

It is worth noting that the Sultanate aims, through the National Space Policy, to position the Sultanate as a regional gateway for space services and technologies, in line with its strategic goal of economic diversification and scientific advancement.

Such meetings and discussions are seen as part of a broader effort to establish strategic partnerships with friendly countries and international institutions, especially the United States, a leader in space exploration and technology.
