More than 51,000 visit 'Rummana' event in Jabal Al Akhdar

Muscat: A total of 51,078 people visited the second edition of the 'Rummana' event in Jabal Al Akhdar in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate compared to 22,482 visitors in the first edition from July 4 to September 28 .

The second edition of 'Rummana' event is among the agricultural tourism initiatives organised by Tibi Tourism Development Company in partnership with the Tourism Agriculture Development Company in Jabal Al Akhdar for spreading the culture of environment- friendly tourism, and providing unique experiences to tourists, in addition to enhancing local added value and transferring knowledge and expertise to young generations.

Engineer Khalid bin Hamad Al Aghbari, Head of the Field Work Team at the Tourism Agriculture Development Company (Janaen), said: "The second edition of the 'Rummana' event led to the participation of 45 small and medium-sized companies working in various sectors, and promoted productive institutions and families while introducing visitors to their products.

Al Aghbari added that fruit sales in the event exceeded 5,000 kilograms with an estimated value of about OMR10,000 , and the number of pomegranate trees belonging to the "Rummana" project during the second edition amounted to 667 and their production this year reached about 8.5 tonnes.

Al Aghbari explained that the increase in the number of visitors to the second edition of the Rummana' event is due to its coincidence this year with the "Summer of the Green Mountain" events, which included the holding of many cultural, social, sports, entertainment and heritage activities within the governorate's plan to stimulate local tourism and promote heritage and natural components that the Wilayat of Jabal Al-Akhdar is famous for.

For her part, Al-Amjad bint Hilal Al Maawali, partner and founder of "Tibi Tourism Development Company", said: "The 'Rummana' project provided an exceptional experience to visitors through its various activities and events, which enabled them to enjoy a unique experience among the pomegranate trees."

Al Maawali added that the project included a variety of restaurants and cafes, and many workshops and cultural events were organised for families and children for instilling the concept of agriculture tourism in them and transferring agricultural knowledge and information. The event also included many areas designated for children's games and a corner to sell products of small and medium enterprises in the Wilayat of Jabal Al Akhdar.

Al Maawali confirmed that the 'Rummana' event contributed to strengthening the position of Jabal Al Akhdar as a leading tourist, cultural and agricultural destination in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, noting that the Wilayat is rich in a variety of natural resources, the employment of which contributes to enhancing the competitiveness of the agricultural and tourism sector in the Wilayat of Jabal Al Akhdar. This version has played a prominent role in enhancing the experience of tourism agriculture and supporting farmers to market their various products.
