LONDON: Stand-in England coach Lee Carsley has named four debutants in his first squad as stand-in England coach in the wake of Gareth Southgate's decision to stand down in the wake of this summer's European Championships.
The former Under-21 coach has given debut call-ups to Newcastle defender Tino Livramento, Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White, Lille's Angel Gomes and Chelsea's Noni Madueke, who scored a hat-trick at the weekend and who have all worked with him at Under-21 level.
He has also recalled Jack Grealish after the Manchester City winger was left out of Southgate's squad in the summer, while Harry Maguire, who missed the Euro due to injury, is also back for the UEFA Nations League games against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.
"It's important to put my own stamp on the squad but also recognize how well they've done in the past. We've come so close (to winning a trophy) but I thought it was important to put some fresh faces in the squad," said Carsley in his press conference.
