Mercedes-Benz E-Class: More appealing than ever

The wait is finally over. The all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class was officially launched in Oman last week with much fanfare. Eschewing the sportier trappings of its rivals, the E-class has always been synonymous with class, comfort, and quality. Now the all-new E-Class is no exception either.
With its distinct, emotive design, exclusive interior, and impressive number of innovations, Mercedes-Benz is taking a big step into the future with this new model. With the launch of E-Class, Mercedes-Benz is also taking another step closer to its goal of accident-free and autonomous driving.
What I think could delight the customers is the confident style, agile handling, and interior design that Mercedes-Benz has come-up with. With its big grille, long bonnet and tapered rear end, the E-Class now has a strong resemblance to the rest of the Mercedes family.
While its new extended vehicle body is characterised by short overhangs, a long wheelbase, large wheels and taut well-defined flanks that display a fresh, stylish and dynamic interpretation of the feature line, the dashboard looks fabulous, and is put together brilliantly too, feeling as tight as a button wherever you look. High-quality plastics and lovely slivers of metal and wood abound, while the central console is clear and well laid-out, and finished with some fabulous knurled switches.
The large colour screen that dominates the interior is clear and easy to read. As the entire cockpit is fully digital, the driver is free to configure the information and create his or her own personal cockpit. The steering wheel features touch-sensitive ‘Touch Controls’ that, like a smartphone interface, respond precisely to horizontal and vertical swiping movements. This is done to keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road, which allows only minimum distraction to a driver.

Spacious Interior
From inside what I have observed is that, the E-Class is vast, offering more than enough room for all its passengers, and it’s largely on a par with, if not better than, its rivals in every regard. There’s fractionally more room for your luggage than you’ll find in any of the other models in this segment.

Smooth Seats
Another highlight of the E-Class are its seats. They are fabulous and delightfully smooth. It looks refined, sporty featuring a unique design for each line. The ‘Active Multicontour Seat’ package is also available as an option for the front seats. This includes energizing massage, dynamic seat, multicontour backrest and active cushion. All models of E-Class are equipped as standard with the new 9G TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission. It enables fast gear changes and allows low engine revs, which has a particularly beneficial effect on efficiency and noise levels.

Powerful Engine
The 4-cylinder engine boasts a displacement of 2.0 l, direct injection, variable valve timing and turbo-charging. Peaking at 300Nm, it also offers exceptional torque and power, combined with low fuel consumption and emissions in keeping with current standards.

Safety at its Best
Another highlight of the E-Class is its driver assistance. ‘Active Brake Assist’ is able to warn the driver of impending collisions, provide optimum support with emergency braking and if necessary also autonomously apply the brakes. Included as standard is ‘Attention Assist’ with adjustable sensitivity, which can warn the driver of inattentiveness and drowsiness. This could be the next big thing and it could perhaps make the E-Class one of the safest cars in the world. If you want a car that is sophisticated, confidently stylish, and sporty then the all-new E-Class is the one for you.
