Over 1,200 prisoners released as part of Fak Kurbah initiative

Muscat: 'Fak Kurbah' initiative has released more than 1,200 indebted people in it's eleventh edition.

The Omani Lawyers Association, which supervises the “Fak Kurbah ” initiative, revealed today that the number of humanitarian cases released in the eleventh edition of the initiative reached 1,219 cases.

Dr. Hamad bin Hamdan Al-Rubaie, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Omani Lawyers Association, explained during the press conference held at the Crowne Plaza Qurum Hotel, that the number of those released from the North Al Batinah Governorate came in the lead as their number reached 261 cases, followed by the Muscat Governorate with 202 cases, then Al Buraimi Governorate. With 154 cases. In Al Dhahirah Governorate, 153 cases, then in South Al Batinah Governorate, with 128 cases. While the number of cases released in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate reached 98 cases, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate 72 cases, North Al Sharqiyah Governorate 67 cases, Dhofar Governorate 62 cases, Al Wusta Governorate 16 cases, and Musandam Governorate 6 cases.

Dr. Hamad Al Rubaie said that the initiative, since its launch last March, has been characterised by broad participation from donors and philanthropists from government and private institutions and individuals, bringing the initiative to a new record. The total number of those released since the launch of the initiative in 2012 has reached approximately 7,100 cases to date.

Dr. Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Zadjali, General Supervisor of the “Fak Kurbah ” Initiative, said: "The Fak Kurbah Initiative is an annual voluntary initiative launched in the month of Ramadan every year. It is organised by a group of lawyers in the Omani Lawyers Association to release insolvent persons, detainees, or those against whom a detention order has been issued, provided that the insolvent person has not benefited from the initiative during its previous versions."
