Muscat: The memory of laying the foundation stone of the Oman Across Ages Museum, which was kindly laid by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, may God rest his soul, was celebrated yesterday under the patronage of Her Highness Mian bint Shihab Al Said.
Engineer Al-Yaqzan bin Abdullah Al-Harthi, Director General of Oman Across Ages Museum, said: The Museum celebrates an immortal memory in our minds. The memory of laying the cornerstone of the Oman Across Ages Museum, which corresponds to July 14, 2015, when the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said laid the foundation stone, which represents an icon of modern architecture in the Sultanate of Oman.
"This wonderful design was the result of an international architectural competition that was endorsed by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said - may God rest his soul in peace - who ordered the foundation stone-laying ceremony to be held under his generous patronage, emphasising the importance of this project, his supreme interest in preserving Omani history, and highlighting the achievements of its blessed renaissance, as well as presenting a message to the Omani youth to take pride in the Omani identity,” Al Harthy added.
Additionally, Al Harthy added: “The foundation stone of Oman Across Ages Museum was the launch of a national project, towards which great efforts were made. Omani youth emerged in various fields, until we reached this goal, and the museum was inaugurated this year under the high patronage of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik - may God protect him. His Majesty emphasised the importance of looking forward to the future of Oman that meets the aspirations of every Omani.”
The documentary film shown embodied a presentation of the construction stages that the building of the museum went through, the design of its multiple halls with the latest systems and modern technologies, the design of educational content, the historical narration, the selection of images and film materials, the method of displaying holdings, models, and others.
It is worth noting that the Oman Across Ages Museum seeks to highlight the history of Oman over time through sound and image, and to highlight the ancient historical eras witnessed by the Sultanate of Oman, up to the era of the blessed Renaissance. It targets the young generation primarily to create appreciation for what their predecessors have achieved, while thinking about their role in the future. It also represents a symbol of the Renaissance, Oman and its history, a translation of Omani architecture in a modern style, and carries with it knowledge based on educating the Omani people as an element for achieving development and excellence, as well as consolidating the Omani identity in an interactive manner.
