With Oman’s participation, Special Olympics World Games to kick off

Berlin: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by Special Olympics Oman, will take part in the 16th edition of the Special Olympics World Games "Berlin 2023", due to kick off tomorrow (Saturday) in the German capital, Berlin, and will continue until 25 June.

The official opening ceremony of the competitions will be held at the Olympiastadion Berlin under the auspices of Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Oman’s delegation comprises 36 players (persons with intellectual disability) and 9 unified partners.

The delegation will participate in the following games: athletics, unified badminton, unified bocce, bowling, equestrian, futsal, golf, weightlifting, roller skating, sailing, swimming, table tennis, and unified tennis.

The Special Olympics Oman participated during the period from 12-15 June in the Host Town Programme. During the programme, the delegation was in the German city of Oberhausen. The programme included many cultural and sports activities that aimed to highlight the role of people with intellectual disabilities.

The Special Olympics World Games “Berlin 2023” will include 26 Olympic sports. It will be participated by 7,000 players.

Meanwhile, the technical meetings of the coaches started today to to introduce them to the details of the games.

Further, today’s schedule includes a meeting for heads of delegations to discuss many topics related to the games.
