Muscat: The Environment Department in Al Wusta Governorate has conducted field studies and surveys in the Arabian Oryx Reserve in the Wilayat of Haima.

The Department of Environment in Al Wusta Governorate, in cooperation with the Department of Biological Diversity at the Authority's General Office and the Office of Environmental Conservation, carried out field studies and surveys in the Arabian Oryx Reserve in the Wilayat of Haima.

The surveys aimed to identify the different environments in the study area and the types of wildlife in them, and to establish a database of the fungal species and the ecosystems in which they live, to serve as a reference and basis for developing plans and programmes to preserve wildlife and preserve natural systems.

Abdullah bin Salim Al-Wardi, Head of the Environmental Conservation Department at the Environment Department in Al Wusta Governorate, said: “The department is in the process of implementing three surveys this year in Al-Wusta Governorate. They cover aspects related to wildlife and ecosystems, and include surveys of birds, mammals, plants and reptiles.”

Al Wusta Governorate is characterized by a geographical location whose topography varies between plains, valleys, beaches and vast deserts. This diversity has created different ecosystems and a unique biodiversity in which there are many forms of innate life, including plants and animals.
