Muscat: A video circulating on social media has caught the attention of the Omani public which shows a Mwasalat bus driver using his mobile phone while transporting passengers as well as failing to wear a seat belt.
Mwasalat released a statement confirming that the driver is indeed an employee of the national transport company.
“The company takes responsibility for the action shown on the video that is considered an ‘individual act’ which does not represent the rest of the driver’s colleagues and does not follow the company’s policy and operational procedures,” read the statement.
“The company implements all traffic safety precautions as well as enrolls the drivers in a thorough training regimen,” the statement added.
Mwasalat also said that it will proceed with implementing the maximum punishment according to company regulations in which the driver violated and imposed danger upon the passengers.
“The company calls on all to cooperate and notify Mwasalat on any issue that affects safety and performance through the different channels on social media,” read the statement.
“The company reiterates that it does not tolerate this kind of action and will keep ensuring the safety of the passengers,” they concluded.
