Muscat: The percentage of Omanisation in direct jobs in the water sector reached 98% and 95% in direct jobs in the electricity sector, said the Chairman of the Authority for Public Services Regulatory(APSR).
Dr. Mansour Al-Hinai, Chairman of the Authority for Public Services Regulatory (APSR) confirmed during the annual media meeting of the Authority to review what was implemented in 2022 and plans for 2023: “The percentage of Omanisation in direct jobs in the water sector reached 98%, and 49% in indirect jobs (contractors) and reached 95% in direct jobs in the electricity sector, and 53% in indirect jobs.”
Al-Hinai also said about the authority’s plan in terms of regulatory frameworks that the plan is summarised in seven projects, which are possible regulatory frameworks for the alternative energy sector, storage, self-generation and distributed, and following up the implementation of the second phase of connecting the main electricity network and the southern electricity network.”
He also said about the projects plan: “Adopting frameworks for regulating the water and wastewater sector, reviewing the economic regulation mechanism of the OQ Gas Networks Company, auditing the technical plans of the Electricity Transmission Company, regulatory frameworks for securing the water network and supervising the restructuring of the energy buying and selling system and planning.”
Regarding the contribution of renewable energy, Dr. Al-Hinai confirmed that the percentage of electricity production from renewable sources increased by 2%, and the net electricity production increased by 7.6% during the year 2022, which represents 39,537 GWh.
