Muscat: Those running NGOs in Oman can now exhibit their work on a major platform: the Hand-in-Hand initiative of the Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa, which is organising a free exhibition for such organisations on June 30 at the Mazar souk.
A lot of such NGOs have already registered but there are still spots left and the Shangri-La Resort is welcoming more organisations to participate.
“We have NGOs which distribute food and water, some go paint houses for people and other teach Holy Quran to children—we welcome all such initiatives to our event where they can showcase what they do. It brings everyone under one roof,” said Rasha Al Madani, restaurants marketing manager, who also founded the initiative.
Started in 2012, the Hand-in-Hand initiative was started by the Shangri-La Resort to give back to the local community, which is in need of support and through this programme the project has helped lots of home businesses, students and NGOs.
Hand-in-Hand has been taking place during Ramadan for the last four years and usually starts from the second weekend of the holy month.
“This year, we had a series of events taking place; the first week is always dedicated for Injaz Oman, where college students showcase their products, creativity and innovation. It’s a very interesting day to see how smart and creative students can be. This year the Minister of Environment and several VIPs came to see and encourage them,” Al Madani added.
According to Al Madani, the support comes from both companies and individuals because the larger purpose of the initiative is charity.
Hand-in-Hand also organised a Qaranqasho night for children, along with Dar Al Atta’a. Children could enter for OMR1, which entitled them for entry and a goody bag filled with toys and candy. All proceeds from the event went to Dar Al Atta’a.
“We get support from lots of companies and individuals for this initiative, and this year too we were supported by Majlis al Henna, For You events, Pixel production, Saif Design studio and Dar Al Atta’a. Obviously, all this wouldn’t have been possible without the support
On June 23, another event called ‘Bahjat al Eid’ or Joy of Eid will be organised by Hand-in-Hand “where families can buy everything they need for their Eid right from clothes, shoes, to accessories and beauty products, it’s for everyone,” Al Madani said.
